Twice in history the river has changed course and, in doing so, left its sand and gravel sediments to join the older slate subsoils. This mix imparts a feather-like delicacy to the wines.

These are fruit-driven wines, typically fermented off-dry, and labeled with the assignation 'Saarfeilser'.
